We enjoy theirs stay on our porch every year… they will build their nest in couple of days. Once hatch they will go elsewhere… to my surprise another bird species will utilise their nest… stay for few days n leave… this happens every year. Here in Washington state, I have three h bird nests in my holly tree.. Not quite sure what they eat when it’s freezing but safe from predators… This next winter going to set up sheltered feeding station that’s heated and secure.. Love those little birds. Yes but if I saw that I would have to buy it a bird hiuse. I would not be able to sleep knowing there’s a little bird trying to stay dry under that leaf in a rainstorm. Sadly it was too small. By the time the babies grew up a little, the nest broke. I guess it’s about time the young birds build a nest that their mum can call home.

Sadly a storm hit, destroying apart the little house with the little roof! But happily the baby bird grew up strongly, therefore flying away with their little mama. A hummingbird built it’s nest in a stained glass hanging light on my patio. (see profile pic) protected from wind and rain and predators. raised 2 little hummers that summer. It looked real cool too. I got to see one take it’s first flight and the kids came back and built nests in our back yard trees too! So smart. I watch them all summer. The ones we have won’t share. One is always guarding. So I put out 2. Now he guards both. Thats a ardorable idea. That little bird has a great personality and family sense. Years I was entering a building and felt something buzz by head. Coming out I saw humming bird go after me again as there was her nest door in a tree. As I pulled car up near building mother bird on fence watching very protective bird was funny and understood why! All Hummingbirds like to find cover when they can. That’s why it is good to have a roof or barrier above feeders. To protect from hawks and such.
