I got a little long-haired chi that was used for breeding and when she lost her last litter, the had her spayed and didn’t want her anymore. They had only fed her puppy chow all her life and she looked like a little barrel! Her teeth were horrible! I took her to the vet to get her teeth cleaned and extracted. It’s taken over 2 yrs, but she’s finally at a healthy weight! But, I tell you, she is the sweetest, lovingest little thing and I love her dearly. She’s still on weight mgmt. food and still needs to lose some, but she is healthy now. Review your dog’s diet with the vet first. Have the dog’s bloodwork done. Your dog could have hypothyroidism. It causes weight gain. Either something is wrong health wise or you are over feeding (unknowingly) or you need to change food. A trip to the vet is needed for such a young dog.
Well done you and gorgeous Bertha.I rescued a very obese dog and had him for 17 wonderful happy years.He loved food but slimmed down to a very handsome fit boy.Still miss his love and hugs. She looks great and is moving around much easier.
