Dart is a web programming language developed by Google. It was officially announced at the GOTO Workshop on October 10-12, 2011 in Aarhus. Dart’s purpose was not to replace JavaScript as the main scripting language within the web browser, but to provide a more modern alternative.
Dart’s purpose is to solve JavaScript problems (which, according to a leaked document, cannot be solved by language improvements) while providing better performance, ability to “can easily become a tool in large projects” and better security. [4] Google engineers are currently developing a cloud-based IDE called Brightly, which is probably the first Dart application. Google will provide a Dart compiler into ECMAScript 3 code on the fly, for non-Dart browsers. It is also possible to convert typed Closure code into Dart. [5] Google will also integrate a virtual machine into Chrome and encourage competitors to do this with their browsers. The Dart and Dart Cross Compiler virtual machines could be available by the end of 2011.
