It’s actually a really interesting experiment to see the reactions of kittehs to a new face. It really shows they recognise us as individuals. Then bring back the familiar and praise them so they are in a safe place. Cats are smart and adjustable. Surprise is not terror, and at feeding or treat time, the poor frightened kitties won’t care. Cats are quite visual but they also rely on scent. They know who is whom!
- This is plain cruel. Those cats are terrified! My cat was scared when he just saw an illustration of eyes on a table mat. He raced out of the room with his tail all fluffed up. I want him to trust me, not fear me. I find it most interesting that these cats identify themselves in the mirror. Otherwise they would not look up to the potential “treat” above them…
- Do cats and dogs recognize themselves shown in displays as themselves? According to this video, it seems yes. But there are videos that shows cats and dogs act like a relfection from a mirror is a different individual. I am confused.
- Cats don’t have self recognition so they don’t think the thing on the screen is them or their owner. The owners are making a high pitched sound so the cats look up confused. Can someone explain how that works? Because if it is only a filter and the pets can see that faces in a screen in front, then all of them are be aware of themselfs??? That’s amazing isn’t it?
Don’t worry guys I don’t think the cats were scared. When the cats looked upwards to their moms they were just confused why the faces were different looking from those in the phones. Just that. When I pretend to meow like my cats they just show the similar puzzled facial expression like: wtf is wrong with u??
I’ll never understand how people can complain about cats and dogs getting scared by silly things like this. These pets are obviously loved and cared for. Volunteer your time in a local shelter and you’ll see what a scared pet looks like. I would try this with my cats but I know they won’t give a crap
but you people do realize that if they understand that what they see in the screen is them and their owner, and they go back and forth to recheck it – that they understand it’s a camera, a display, and themselves they are viewing.
