You can use the government, but I would prefer keeping it local since they are the most accountable and the closest to the issue. When you involve the federal government or even the state government you add an additional layer of cost, regulation, and special interest headaches.
- you tell me why not. I already made my case for government. If I said that sounds great what happens when private groups don’t step up? If we let government fund the private groups then people complain about the strings that are attached. Basically everyone complains, and no one really fixes the problems.
- You know we have tried many things but for some reason the mentally ill just end up in solitary confinement in the penal system. Get a grip on reality. It takes a lot of effort to run a society and the private sector isn’t a magic bullet. Best case is when there is transparency and help comes from multiple areas.
- I don’t think the government should fund it at all, but if you must have the government provide the service then it should be as local as possible. I think local nonprofit organizations provide the best transparency and the best understanding of local needs. The next best might be local government, but government tends to be inefficient and bloated. This trend gets worse the further removed they are from the situation.
If the welfare state disappeared today and taxation became at least minimal or nonexistent as a result; then we’d see an unprecedented amount of charity – not that much of it would be needed anyway, because unemployment would also become nonexistent.just think of how much better that money would be managed as well, vs going through countless levels of government bureaucracy, corruption, and ineptitude.
