I guess my point is this…..healthcare systems are in the BUSINESS of taking care of patients- sick people- people that need help and who are in some of the worst times of their lives: trauma, cancer, extremely premature babies, etc. You cannot convince me that all of these hospital systems are refusing to sign on because they no longer want to perform the task of taking care of these people in their times of greatest need. It is because it is not financially sustainable, and it takes more than just the hospital and the SHP/BCBS to be a part of it. It is not affordable healthcare if the small hospitals are not open in 10 years due to bankruptcy and some amazing services are no longer to be offered because of reimbursement issues at the larger hospitals.
I did see the Cone Health admin letter, and although it was extremely unprofessional, there is a reason that all of these folks are so upset. The ad campaign against Dr. Waldrum may take facts, but they twist them in a dirty political way that attempts to slant public opinion negatively for those who do not know the whole story. Like I asked before, what is your price for a CEO with those responsibilities? Do you know his motives behind not attending the town hall? They werr in an active negotiation surrounding the lawsuit over hospital board seats, and he likely couldn’t answer many of the questions that were to be asked. I don’t know so we can’t assume.
I am not an expert in financials in healthcare but again, my bottom line is that no one can convince me that all of these hospitals are refusing to sign on because they just don’t want to….it’s because they know it’s financially irresponsible and unsustainable, and they will no longer be able to provide the quality care to ALL of the patients they offer services to – state employees or otherwise.
