Earlier Jara talked about a budget shortfall and that the schools need to cut 4%. Now all of a sudden they have money for this horrible plan?! Whoever voted for the marijuana bill was sold a ponzie scheme. People need to understand, when they say that a new tax was going to the schools, it’s not actually extra money. The state just gives less and the schools still get the same amount no matter what. here’s an article about how the marijuana taxes have been divvyed up. It’s from a year ago, but not much has changed, to my knowledge. Bet you are right! When it was being shoved down our throats I always thought it was a big lie and now we know, don’t we? it’s a joke. Basically the survey that was sent out and the school reopening committee were just for show. CCSD/Jara was/is going to do whatever he wanted to do anyways.

I think dealing with a student who refuses to wear a mask and the parents who go ballistic about it needs to be added to the list of things. I gave feedback earlier in the week and it was received politely as a brush off. I listened to the session yesterday and couldn’t sleep last night. The anxiety level on a parent level combined w worrying about teachers, subs (you pointed this out), budget, equity across schools, bell schedules…the letter we got yesterday was just crazy…I get that no one is going to be happy but we’ve got to figure out how as a community we can rally together to support this process and I don’t see a good path forward to do that. EYS starts Monday and my kiddo can’t wait to see her teacher for 30 a day. And we’re lucky cause as dhoh child she’s got an amazing advocate in him but so many kids don’t have this access. Kids aren’t gonna wear masks all day even two days a week. I wish instead of our two elementary schools pushing pta positions to fill, they’d begin to strategize about how the pta can support teachers and kids during this time…sorry for the rant. After all day teleworking while watching four kids, I’m wired.
