I still haven’t figured out why all colleges didn’t have online only for Freshman. The basic courses are the ones with the most students and hardest to spread out. Also, the freshman are the ones most likely to be living in dorms. Freshman or 1st years are also more likely to struggle with balancing a Pandemic and new found freedoms. Universities needed to tell all Freshman and Sophomores to just stay home and work online. This would allow for upperclassmen to finish strong. Students are not entitled to an “experience”. They go to college for the courses. I have 2 seniors in college and it is hurting their chances to actually finish. As a parent, I would have told my freshman to take a GAP year or take courses online. my sister’s senior year is pretty much ruined. One of her best friends contracted the virus through no partying but is part of the athletic department. It is hard for everyone. UNC is far from the only University with this issue. Oklahoma is battling too and others will soon follow. The question is what do they do. Not all programs can be virtual. Regardless, this virus is real and we need to take it seriously. If we had in the spring, all the children and college kids would be in a much different position. I have a junior at UNCW. He is in Wilmington In his off campus apartment. My freshman was supposed to start N.C. State but a week before move in she decided to take a gap year. We are so grateful she did. my daughter attend a UNC system school and has been doing her part too. I hope this mess with UNC-C doesn’t affect all 17 UNC system schools. There are kids who go to college to learn, not party.
