He’s given those companies a monopoly so they will be available, although probably at much higher prices than the rest of the country, If he created incentives for buying electric that were imaginative like cutting State taxes for 5 years or something that gave the consumer a choice they would end up in a better place.

  • The same thing happened in 1972 when CA was the first state to require catalytic converters. So many people bought cars out of state. One of my dad’s friends had a vacation home in New Mexico that had 30 people register their cars through. Crazy times. with all the money invested in research why has not a single chemistry lab come up with a way to attach a carbon ring to a silicon molecule and improve solar reception by a thousand percent.
  • Yeah but they will probably have to pay outrageous sales taxes in California. I bought a car in Arkansas before I moved to Missouri and Missouri still made me pay sales taxes on it to register it there. That’s crazy. Look what they did with commercial trucks. Certain trucks over a certain age cannot be used in California, and the trucks that can be used must have the California clean idle sticker.
  • They are circling the wagons. Heh. Want to save the environment? Let Covid-19 run its course. Want to fix the economy? Let CoVid run its course. Want to save social security? Get old farts out of political office? You get the picture. We are past the tipping point for the environment, though.

Too many people and too many countries that are about to try to have what the “western world” enjoys. …which, of course, means consumption as well as pollution are going to increase dramatically. why are you trying to beat them at their own game. The environment only matters in relation to humans.

Who cares about rocks and plants, we should care about using earth as we see fit, including preserving what we like. Great idea … next earth quake … when all the electric goes down and all the battery cars run down and all the mobility is in the junk they can dream about the old days while everybody just kind of withers away!!!!

I’m a supporter of states’ rights. If California wants to make it far more expensive to purchase a vehicle, while at the same time straining their electrical grid, then I’m not sure it’s our place to stop them. Let them blow billions of tax dollars to subsidize electric vehicles. They can artificially prop up the EV industry until they find innovative ways to reduce the costs. When they resort to $8/gal gas taxes, and $2k per year registration fees to pay for this, then businesses will move to lower cost states.
