When we did your Germany, Austria and Switzerland tour back in ’08, the Rhine River Valley was one of my very favorite stops – actually it was a start – the start of a wonderful 16 days!
- On my last trip to Germany I rented a car at the Frankfurt airport had reserved it in the U.S. I drove down to Garmisch stopping in several towns. Did the whole thing their. Then traveled north to Berlin and to Amsterdam stopping all the points of interests including some of my old Army base’s. It took me 30 days to do all that. I could have stayed longer but had to get home. The cost of my trip, priceless !
- Give Eltville a look. Beautiful altstadt, ancient church, lovely promenade along the Rhine with no roads or trains in between, dry castle moat filled with rose gardens, castle tower, & Eberbach Monastery a short bus ride away. Favorite cruise: Ruedesheim to Boppard
- When I first went to Germany at 16, my dear host family took me on a cruise down the Rhine from Lake Konstance to Schaffhaussen (I think). And I was STUNNED to see castle after castle after castle. It put all my history studies into perspective! It was incredible!
