In 1973-1974, the IAEA gave a forecast of installed nuclear capacity of 3,600-5,000 GW worldwide by 2000. As a result the history of the nuclear age is littered of examples of fantasy projections for installed nuclear capability and failures to assemble to time and price range. The nuclear institution, trade, utilities and their promoters in enterprise and politics have a protracted history of over selling their technology and ‘promising the unattainable’.
