Hence, when I try to talk about total truth, the difficulty is that I seem inconsistent. I am saying at the same time two seemingly contradictory things. I say that truth is eternal and it is also wrong to call it new; at the same time I say that truth is always new and there is no meaning in calling it old. When I say both these things together, I am trying to catch total truth at once in its utter completeness. I won’t be remembered as a woman who kept her mouth shut face mask. Whenever truth is said in its completeness, in its many senses, then opposite, inconsistent statements will have to be made. Mahavira’s theory of syatavada was merely an attempt to balance opposing views.
