Owls with large horns can swim in a crawl form with their very strong wings
Julia Ponder, CEO of Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota told Live Science before, to an owl, “if it flies after something on the water and then accidentally gets wet, then sometimes it’s easier to swim ashore than flying with wet wings. ”
Once the bird reaches the shore, they usually take the undercoat out to dry. That’s exactly what happened in Lake Michigan in 2014 when Steve Spitzer (Bird researcher and photographer) saw two falcons chasing after a large horned owl on the water.
