A former coworker of mine once mocked me in front of everyone cause my spanish has an accent (she was always after me) “Clara has a funny accent, hahahah and blablabla” and I just replied out loud that “well at l… See More. In this day and age no one can win no matter what. Sadly it seems to be a given.. It happens everywhere, where others think where they live, is the centre of the universe . I’ve always thought it was others who made me hate my accent when it was actually me who loathed my accent because I was being made fun of.. Funny how many of those people only speak English. I appreciate the complexities of English as a second language.. Great insights here. Way past the surface topic of accents.. I love accents! It means someone has lived somewhere else or grown up in culture different from mine so I can learn something new by friending said accented person. Sadly, they usually find me uninteresting in return.

My little brother bore the brunt of it at 5 years old. Me being 7 went to bat for him and it stopped. That was in 1970. Spoke broken English when I first came to this country and was made fun of because of accent. The only time I object to accents is in healthcare.. I don’t get offended when people ask me where I’m from. At least people from other countries speak more that one language; can’t say the same for people born here.. If you’ve never stood out because of your accent, I wonder why you think your opinion is relevant? Speaking as an immigrant, I get questioned about my origins multiple times every week. Andrés . If you’re wondering why the river is boiling. Its geothermal, though I vouldn’t find anything more specific than that, and I believe that’s because the river is sacred to the indigenous people who live there, so it hasn’t been studied a whole lot.. Please TED change the post. Your article doesn’t explain how the River got that way at all, and your reader base is educated enough to be angry at the click bait.. And here I thought you were actually going to tell us how it got to be that way. Wonder where I got that idea?. Thanks, but anyone reading TED should be fine with Celsius.. It was disappointing to read through the article to just “find out” what happens if one falls in the near-boiling river. Duh…
It would have been way more interesting to find out why the river is the way it is.. Look TED, I get that some of your audience is from the US. But at least have the decency, to put in the temperature values/unit, basically ALL the rest of the world uses.

Now, is still don’t understand why they didn’t base a mole on a standard ISO unit of for example water, why this 18.1 and not just 1ml at 0degC. TED, explain.. Wasn’t this on June 2nd?. Happy Mole day Mathieu Dbst . There are a lot of moles in México, but in Puebla, the traditional is mole poblano, and it has a #moleday! October 7th.. Why isn’t Mole Day on June 2nd?? At 10:23 AM?. …this needed a TED talk?. Happy mole day Jesso…. remember that great song?. This reminds me of XKCD doing calculations on “How big is a mole of moles and what would happen?”
Google it (xkcd mole of moles), it is awesome
