Ski literature is also found with two modern long-distance ski races in Norway and Sweden. These races are inspired by the historical record of the early medieval races in these countries.
Skiing is also recorded in Norwegian mythology, including two deities, Ullr and the goddess Skaði— seen hunting on a skateboard. One of Egil Skallagrimsson’s oldest references “a saga of around 950 depicts King Haakon Adalsteinsfostre with his habit of using tax collectors on skateboards”. A document on skiing by Swedish writer Olaus Magnus described in the 1555 Description of the Northern Peoples, which describes primitive (possibly Sami) skiers in Scricfinnia, a good country. an area in present-day Norway.
