Both Catholic and Protestant authorities have stepped up witch hunts, and in some areas Protestant rulers dealt with witches harsher than Catholicism.
Without needing evidence to convict, The Witchbook and witch trials say these trials “are solely aimed at compelling people to confess by denouncing, persuading, coercing or using violence”.
Torture is a commonly used form. Common forms of torture are naked women being accused of witchcraft, shaving all of their hairs, and then using finger tongs, stretchers, tools with long nails or used to crush bones, beat them. Hit and starve, pull out nails. The red hot iron pressure is pressed against the chest to force them to confess that they flew in the air to carry out demonic quests, turn into animals, make themselves invisible, and do evil deeds, … The victims of torture confessed – and executed on the basis of this confession.
