This is a common lizard species in Central and South America, especially in the vast Amazon forest. They live in the holes of trees to warm up the body temperature. When startled by enemies, these lizards often jump into streams or rivers to escape. They run very fast, can reach speeds of 15 to 16 miles per hour.
