This performance does not appear to be directed towards an individual, but instead is a random occurrence, which stimulates synchronized nesting and pairing with birds that have not had a mate.
Flamingos are usually in love with their couple, but in larger populations they sometimes change mates, perhaps because there are more sex partners to choose from. The pairs will establish and defend the territory where they nest. Females will usually choose a suitable nesting site in the mudflats.
