In 1945 the main production plant in Munich was almost completely destroyed and the Eisenach car factory was handed over to the Soviet army, and in 1952 the factory became a state factory. Since full production tools were still available, right after the war the factory was able to produce pre-war models also under the “BMW” name.
Since BMW in Munich could not accept a car that could be offered for sale under this name without the authority to influence production, a court passed a court that prohibited the Eisenach factory from using this name in 1951. Products The factory products in Eisenach were then sold under the “EMW” brand. Since there had never been a car in Munich until that time and the factory was bombed and dismantled, it was not until 1951 that BMW was able to introduce the first car after the war.
