Thousands of years ago, all cats, regardless of their coat color, lived comfortably in Ancient Egypt. Here, if someone kills a cat they are sentenced to death. But a few millennia later, Christianity spread across Europe. In Christianity, the concept of cats brings bad luck.
In 1233 AD, ninth-century Pope Gregory nailed the last nail on the coffin of a black cat, when he declared the black cat an incarnation of the devil. With this statement, Christians tracked down black cats and burned them alive at festivals in order to punish them for their demonic incarnations. Things were so bad that by the 14th century, cats were nearly extinct in some parts of Europe.
