Jun. 1—The familiar faces at the Cass County Government Building security checkpoint have changed this month.
Director of Security Phil Loos and guard Dave Patty (the director prior to Loos) retired at the end of May, effectively making last Friday their final day and also following the lead of guard Harry Lytle, who retired April 30.
The new Director of Security Kim Felton out of Howard County was official June 1, and she’s been training under Loos since May 21, learning procedures, administration and the building’s ins and outs.
Three more guards will be coming on in June, Felton said.
Loos is known for having a joke ready for those he got to know, and Felton said she’s staying on his email list to try and keep that custom going.
This is a second retirement for Loos.
He first started as a part-timer on the security team starting in 2009, after retiring from the Indiana State Police.
“I knew I needed something to do,” he said.
And a boss asked if he had plans and knew of an opening.
“Something to keep me out of trouble,” he said.
And it also gave him opportunities to interact with people.
He took over from Patty as the director in May 2011.
Two months later, Patty called and asked if Loos had any part-time positions open, and Loos was down an officer.
