I guess conditions have improved for nurses. $35 a week and a 10 patients to one nurse ratio- yikes! My grandmother was a nurse. I remember going on her “rounds” with her. Back when nurses came to you. Awesome to see. I know at one time if a person was a nurse aide for 10 years I think they were able to take LPN boards. Written year I was born. I became a nurse in 1980 first job $8.00 an he as a LVN worked 30 yrs just retired yr ago.lovebeing a nurse.miss it.
My first nursing job as an LPN in 1985 for $5/hr caring for 80 skilled residents and supervising 5 nurse’s aides. 30 years of nursing left me disabled. Never had insurance or paid vacations. I’ll never recommend it as a career. enjoyed 47 years of full time nursing, a tough career not very well paid for the exposure to all kinds of diseases and the lousy benefits. wouldn’t advise it . I enjoyed taking care of most people, retired and am glad of it
