Service dogs and therapy dogs are the best. A teacher at our school has a service dog named Simi. Then we have Max which is our therapy dog. Me and 2 other teacher started a private school for uniquely abled students almost 4 years ago. Your son will slowly get use to Honor being there for him. You are an amazing mom. Thank you for sharing a little bit of your adventures with us.

  • My heart is with you. I do not have a child with autism but worked with adult people with disabilities and can imagine your challenge. You sound like an awfully good mom to me.
  • Hey, if we didn’t have challenges every day, we wouldn’t be able to get out of bed in the morning. Sometimes you have to take the journey one day at a time, it’s nice to know that Honor will be there for Amos. Those kind of dogs are great not only for kids, but ones with special needs. They will do fine together, they just have to find their niche. Good luck with your training and don’t give up.
  • Gifts are often disguised & it is only by taking a chance & moving forward on faith that they can reveal themselves— Push on— You can do this! Keep at it and thank you for sharing!! We’re thinking of getting a service dog someday, too— but I know it’s going to be a tough transition!!

You guys are working so hard and it is going to be so good for Amos when Honor is with you full time. You are doing a great job Mom!!! I think you’re one of the bravest moms I know. You’ve got grit and resilience for days…you’ll succeed!

I can’t even imagine. It’s got to be tough. You already have a family dynamic that you can maneuver in your way and a dog on top of that. You’re a great mom for doing it!!! Just another tool in your tool belt for not only your son but for your whole family!

Amos and your family will all learn the ins’s and out’s. Honor will assist all of you. I know first hand how much children like Amos have regressed without school and the services they so desperately need. I’m not sure how it is now in NC, but do you have the ability to bring a BCBA in for 1:1 therapy for Amos and your family?
