We were privileged to be in Milan last November. The cathedral is magnificent, the galleria inviting ( yes, I twirled on the bull), but the Last Supper – awe inspiring. The size of the painting. The details. Takes your breath away. Thank you Rick for mentioning Milan. There are so many things and sites in Milan and near Milan. I was completely overwhelmed by “Last Supper” — even for only 15 minutes.

  •  Again, Rick Steves’ guide — regarding reserved the pickets ahead of time (I reserved mine 2 months ahead) in order to view this master piece without frustration. Alla Scala is a dream for classical music/opera lover — not only the history behind, but also the world-famous rowdy audience.
  • It was an eye-opening experience to witness the high-demand audience, with a little amusement. Spring board to Lake Como, traffic hub for side trips plus easy Metro/subway. By the way, I had to get used to traffic-obeying citizens that can be rarity in Italy…
  • The Sforza Castle. The thrill of walking through Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and seeing the Duomo for the first time is incredible. And then the Last Supper- what an amazing painting. Thankfully it is being taken care of for future generations. It is such an honor to be able to stand in its presence. So mesmerizing.

I hoped to tour Milano and Northern Italy this past May but Covid-19 had other plans. Thank you for this wonderful description of the Duomo. I’ve read your travel books cover to cover before all my European adventures and really enjoy your writing style! I can’t wait to travel again but am reading your new book in the meantime.

As a teenager in the early 80’s my father had a job that took him for business near Milano from our home in NY. In the summertime, we were fortunate that we were allowed to spend the entire summer there! I truly regard the Central Place as the most accessible city to voyage throughout Europe! From this city, a 3 hour drive in any direction connects you to an incredible array of locales.

Love you and your program, we have travelled quite a bit in the US and surrounding areas pre-pandemic of course and we had mapped out our coastal trip to Sicily and Italy for this summer, we hoped. Well, we know Europe isn’t going anywhere and can’t wait to visit. We love to walk and explore, eat and drink with the locals, it’s going to open up again and we will savor our travels all the more when we can get out in the world again!
