Remember when in March Trump and Bolsonaro said that countries could not stop, that they could not close their businesses and that people could not be locked at home waiting for this to pass? In addition to the proven mental health problems it can cause, stopping country’s economy will kill a lot, even much more than the corona, creates more poverty and creating more poverty countries will necessarily have less health care. Hence the expression that many people use, “if you don’t die of covid-19, you’ll die starving to death.” You do not have to be too smart to figure that out.
• W.H.O. started sending directors this week to get the message out that they do not advise governments to make confinement (lockdowns) because it’s going to create poverty. Trump and Bolsonaro said that almost 7 months ago!
• Yes, covid-19 can cause a terrible respiratory infection to debilitated people and the elderly. Yes, one should be careful on a day-to-day life. No, you should not go into paranoia or stopping economies.

No, this virus does not have a high mortality rate, quite the contrary, the mortality rate is very low. Yes, we must be concerned about many other diseases, which in the meantime kill many more people than covid-19. It is seeing how many people have died from heart disease and cancer since March. Hundreds? Thousands?

Just last month, Trump passed an executive order deferring payroll taxes (the taxes that fund Social Security), and promised to forgive these deferred taxes and to make permanent cuts to the Social Security payroll tax if he was reelected. In other words, he literally promised to touch Social Security, yet is now promising that he won’t let anyone touch it. He is simply counting on his supporters to be too uninformed to notice his obvious contradictions.
