Being of Polish descent, visiting Poland had been a dream for a long time. That planned trip was threatened by medical issues but I believe that we were meant to make that trip. We feel so fortunate to have had everything fall in place. We had decided to attach a RS eight day visit to Prague and Budapest to our time in Poland to get an overview of Central Europe. The entire trip was so memorable!! While we loved our organized trip, our time in Poland meant so much! While in Krakow we spent two days with Andrew, a private guide we were able to contract with on advice in our RS guidebook and it was one of our best decisions! Having a local drive us and give us insight into his home maximized our time and experience. While in Krakow, we made many trips back to the square to hear the bugler in the window!
I have roots in Poland and have done a couple of trips there. I enjoyed it very much. Krakow is one of my favorite cities. Here is a photo of Rick’s (and mine!) favorite milk-bar cafeteria. Great food! After my first Rick Steves tour in 2005, I fell in love with Europe. Now I live in Krakow and it is a heavenly place to be for this American teacher. I walk the streets and parks of Krakow and have to pinch myself that I am really living and working in this green medieval paradise. The people here are amazing and the food choices are endless. Everyone should experience Krakow in the spring or fall…or anytime.
