However, solid catchers are an absolute dime a dozen. And you hold onto one when you get it (Buster, Yadi, etc). I think the Cubs can gamble with a contract on him at 31. I’d be happy locking him up than, instead of letting Heyward finish out his contract. Just me personally. Because of what you could’ve gotten for him? That’s why. I would have zero problems seeing Victor behind the plate every day. Not that I don’t like Wilson just that defensively aside from his arm he’s a mess. And what’s this about letting Heyward finish out his contract? Unmm maybe you hadn’t noticed but that money is all guaranteed. It ain’t up to the team. What team and players are you watching? Contreras has been a solid contributor at the dish since he was called up. In the beginning, his bat was excellent. Then, his arm came around. While he does need work on pitch framing, that will come in time (not to mention a manager who might be capable of helping). So again, not sure who you’re watching…
And as far as Heyward’s contract goes, I just looked into it and realized his full no-trade clause kicks in after 2020 (10/5 rights). Didn’t realize his 10/5 would include a no-trade clause. So it looks like we’re stuck with that. My bad. David Nuehring heyward is not going anywhere. It’s going to be a decision of letting Rizzo walk which is fine by me and investing in javy, kB, and Wilson. At least we have contreras under control for another 3 years. I think we can always keep Schwarber at a friendly contract as he is now just a one trick pony. Future is still bright. the main reason he was on the block wasn’t just injury history is his inability to frame pitches. He cost cubs pitching tons of outs that led to big innings and even loosing the game cause he can’t frame a pitch to save his life. Hopefully grandpa rossy can work on that with him but if he can’t, you will continue to hear his name in trade talks. And there still should be. He’s the most marketable and will be in back the most return. And we have catching depth in the organization.
