Perhaps this is not the right post to offer this question but here it goes: Since I purchased our home brand new 15 years ago, we have been unable to use our 2-car garage. We have made small effort in the past to clean the garage and once we get enough space for one vehicle, BOOM! We start filling that space with more things from inside the house. The pattern continues. In the past 15 years I took 6 years to work on my doctoral coursework (done), then I had a work related injury that put me out of commission for 2+ years, then I had 4 surgeries on my breast (all masses were benign), and it has been one thing after another that has kept us from working on that dang garage.

We are in South Texas and the heat and humidity are tough on our vehicles. As a single mom, I want to make our space safe for my daughter to navigate the garage and to hopefully be able to park her car in there. You see, see was diagnosed with MS when she was 19 years old. She’s 26 now and has since dropped off medical insurance. I worry about her walking through the garage to set items in the trash container, which has to stay out of sight from the street (HOA rules) so we keep that in the garage. It has been difficult physically for me to get to the task of the garage AND the attic because of the heat, my daughter tires easily. We looked into getting a trash bin rental but we have to do the work in 5 days while the bin sits in our driveway. Do you have any suggestions on how to start this daunting task? I have 2 weeks off come this Friday. The garage will be our project for our COVID-19 vacation.

We found a local company that can rent us a dumpster for $375. We do the work ourselves but it will be rewarding to have a safe walking space for my daughter and a place to park hwr car. I cannot wait get full use of the garage! we just rented a large dumpster from EBOX in the Memphis TN area for around $500 for 14 days. We do have to do the work, but we have a longer rental period so that helps. I would think your HOA should grant permission since it’s necessary and only temporary. It has been well worth it for us to be able to clear out large house and garage items in one fell swoop instead of endless sorting, taking items to charity, recycling, etc. Just let the “junk” go! You and your daughter will feel such relief.
