I don’t think we know enough yet about immunity or the antibodies to say anything definitively. I’ve seen reports that some people have gotten the virus twice but there aren’t enough confirmed cases yet to decide one way or the other. I’ve only seen two studies on how long the antibodies stay active and the results conflicted. depends on if the tests done included a viral load. There is a PCR and Elisa. One is more sensitive than the other….I can’t remember which. (I did research on viruses in mid-90’s including Hep C). At some point you can test negative but if the test can’t pick up any virus they consider that “cured.” You’re OK. What they came to realize is that the test couldn’t detect the virus but you still had it and the virus would begin replicating again. This virus and testing could be the same. That is my “reader’s digest” version of what I understand about viruses.
heard a report that the reason they are not seeing antibodies is because there are different sets of antibodies. The first ones after the body detects virus is basic antibodies that don’t retain memory. If those antibodies don’t get the job done then come the second wave and those retain memory of how to beat a virus and those antibodies are what gets tested for to find out if you had it. That’s the memory antibodies they look for. We were tested for antibodies after being really sick in Jan. My doctor was also stunned that the test came back negative. But if antibodies only last 8 weeks that would make sense. But I’m wondering if it’s an inaccurate test. .and just how much more pissed off we should still be at the CCP for not saying anything but knowingly signed that trade agreement while it was busy spreading.
