Keynes only said you should run up debt in a severe crisis. It was running up debt in times of plenty and replacing paying off the debt with ‘paying down the deficit’ that has caused the decline and instability. You can’t blame Keynes for that, only idiots who unfairly cite Keynes to give their own short-termist idiotic fantasies a whiff of credibility. I just had a video shoot in a hospital (which shall remain nameless) – I asked the marketing director how it has been for them throughout this pandemic and she said they have a giant warehouse full of emergency equipment set aside, and entire intensive care wing cleared out, and haven’t had any Covid patients at all. Many millions of lost revenue as all regular surgery had been postponed and folks just not coming in out of fear. They are operating at a loss currently and aren’t sure how long they can sustain this. We need to keep in mind our top-down overly cautious approach has also been extremely freaking destructive. having only made it less than a half-year since COVID-19 presented in the USA, any claims that models are wrong are speaking to that which has yet to unfold, and this miss the mark of legitimacy. Strange that not a single line of this article refers to Italy. Only to those totalitarian Chinese. Remember when the Italian medical system stretched to breaking? Remember when they had literal death panels of doctors deciding who lived? Remember when the Chinese were lying about the death tolls and journalists had to count urns to find the discrepancy? Presumably everyone in the most affected Chinese provinces has recovered from the virus. It doesn’t take a 5% covid death rate for the medical infrastructure to crumble and suddenly bring thousands more deaths from additional preventable causes. It only takes a spike. “Flatten the goddamn curve.” We have to look for the reason behind the betrayal. This is not some innocent act of neglect by governments – there is something very critical going on that they still can’t look at the facts and admit they got it so very wrong. We must seek an end to lockdowns. We need to see the rationale for measures taken. We need accountability for the losses we have endured, particularly those losing work, businesses, or the chance to attend a loved ones funeral. They need the torch pointed on them so this never happens again.
