Opposite to that is the cold and lonely life of Grinch in snowy mountains. He was stingy, mean and grumbled by his unfortunate childhood orphan and his different appearance. However, unlike Jim Carrey’s live-action version, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Illumination has tried to reduce the difference between Grinch and Whos in appearance and how villagers treat Grinch. Instead of an ugly Grinch like a monster who gets estranged, scrutinized and shunned by villagers like the live-action movie, The Grinch has modulated them just enough for the audience to see his difference. Grinch in coat color (most Whos have brown coat / skin color and Grinch in blue) and Whoville villagers’ kindness.
So, with just an impact from Cindy-Lou, Grinch has learned an expensive lesson about affection: Christmas is not in bright decorations, but that holiday belongs to everyone’s heart. Even with the loss of beautiful gifts, colorful decorations, the Whos villagers held hands to sing the hymn to prove that Christmas is a reunion, not just physical. In the end, it is the warmth of the human being that makes Christmas, and also the one who inspires “Grinch”.
