Similar to Italians living in the Renaissance period, ballet was performed by the upper classes in French society. Unlike performances that currently serve the audience, such dances are intended to entertain dancers. Due to the monotonous and boring palace life at the time, ballet was used as a pastime. So the kings, princes, nobles and courtiers learned ballet. Interestingly, in the early stages of formation, ballet was only for men and female dancers only became prominent after the French Revolution.
One of the famous people who performed ballet was King Louis XIV of France. This king was a passionate ballet dancer, and he was also known as the “Sun King” because he played the Sun [the embodiment of the god Apollo in Greek mythology] in the ballet de la Nuit. in 1653.
