Now, we come to the last group. Did the women who followed Jesus go to the wrong tomb? It is interesting to note that not only did the women find the tomb empty, but Peter and John came and checked it out. What are the odds they’d all made the same mistake and went to the wrong tomb? And don’t you think they would have made absolutely sure it was the right tomb before they risked their lives saying Jesus’ body was gone? And if somehow they all came down with amnesia, the Jews and Romans would have gone to the real tomb, dragged out the dead body of Jesus in order to prove to all that Jesus was still dead.

Friends, the only explanation that fits the facts is that the tomb was in fact empty that morning and Jesus is alive!

I don’t know about you, but this Sunday morning you will find me in church. There I will be doing what I do every Sunday at church: worshipping Jesus, the resurrected Lord. This Sunday will be Easter Sunday. That will make it even more special. See you in church.

Doug Lamb is the senior pastor at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church.

The meaning of Easter

  • Easter reminds me that I have a hope for life after death

Because Jesus defeated death, I know that one day He will raise me up to be with Him in eternity.

Jesus was resurrected. The resurrection secures for those of you who believe in Jesus, that you will one day go to heaven – 1 Cor. 15.21-22, 51-55

  • Easter means I am forgiven and do not have to carry my guilt

Before the resurrection Jesus died on the cross.  He death paid the penalty for my sins; for your sins.  We can be forgiven and live without the guilt that can weigh so heavy on our hearts.

This is not to say that I am perfect. Christians are not perfect, just forgiven. We all face the choice: I will bear the penalty for my sins or I will trust that Jesus bore the penalty for my sins. Which will you choose?  I chose Jesus.
