The parents of three UMass-Amherst students suspended over a maskless photo at an off-campus party have slammed the school’s decision as ‘complete overkill’.

The dad of one student blasted the university’s ‘draconian’ treatment of his daughter while the mom of one of her friends revealed how her daughter was given just nine hours to pack her bags and leave the campus that is more than 500 miles from her hometown.

Three female freshmen were pictured posing at an outdoor party off the University of Massachusetts campus on a weekend. They were unmasked and it was at a time when the school had banned social gatherings.

The photo was posted on Instagram and was then sent to the school administration who suspended the trio, before also cutting them off from virtual learning and banning them from taking their finals.

The students’ parents have filed a class-action lawsuit against the school, saying they will have to redo the entire semester and have been left $16,000 out of pocket.

R.J., father to one of the students, whose identities have not been revealed, called the actions taken by UMass-Amherst ‘complete overkill’ and said there was no precedent set before the heavy-handed discipline was handed out.

‘There was absolutely no precedent set from a suspension perspective,’ he told Fox & Friends.

‘Our take is if they [university administrators] say they did something wrong, OK, they did something wrong, [but] the punishment they’ve endured for the last two months has been more than enough and the suspension is draconian. It is complete overkill.’
