The Windigokan group believes that they are born from a lineage of gods called Thunder Gods, embodied as giant birds. That makes them seem a bit extraordinary. On the battlefield they are fierce and unpredictable, and horrible during raids. In such a raid, they first gathered in front of the chief’s tent and shouted: “We are not at war! We don’t kill Sioux! We don’t strip their scalp and let the rest escape! Sloth Namast’ay 6 Feet Away. We will go by day! ” That very night they left the camp, dressed in ragged clothes, plastered with mud and painted strange stripes, they wore scary masks with big, pointed nose like rostrum . They walked through the darkness, stumbling on each other – hardly looking through the masks – until they approached a large group of Sioux warriors. Though fewer people, they did not run away but danced in the middle of the enemy.
