He does it to hear himself & block out any noise and for tuning. I have had the privilege of singing alongside Russell at the great british Proms and he is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Not only is he an incredible singer but one of the most kind & down to earth people I have ever met. He had time for a photo with anyone & everyone and would have a chat & answer any questions and he also asked about my singing & how I started etc. Legend. So to all the haters…do one!! Jealousy is not attractive.

• My partner is a singer it’s not always when they have headphones in there ears they can also do it to try and hear themselves better and there pitch. If you put your hand on your ear while talking then take it away you can tell the difference in your voice.
• So funny though and even more so when ant and Dec copied him. Didn’t like Russell when he was with hollie doing the vocal scales. Who’s he think he is talking about embellishment of the notes. It was funny when he sang Danny boy though.
• It is so he can hear that he is pitching it right. You can hear your own voice if you do that and it helps you to get the right note. Especially when there is no musical accompaniment and it is probably a bit echo-y in the castle. I actually didn’t ask the question but yes I googled it, even though ant and Dec took the piss out of Russel for doing it, I understand the reason.

I think all of them are brilliant and getting along so well, Russel as a fantastic voice and deserves a little more respect, he didn’t think he would be here after his diagnosis, if all you can do is give negative comment, then don’t watch the program. Most people are enjoying watching and listening to these celebrities, so try to remember to be kind because some of us are having an awful year and need more positivity.

I think it may be due to the fact that so many folk are at home, with too much time on their hands, many have been home alone for months, social media is being used more than ever as a means to communicate with others. Keep Russel great voice nice man. Get rid of shanel trying to make his cranky voice better than Russell’s. And don’t like Shane’s bully antics he’s supposed to be an adult. Love this guy so if you got nothing to say good about him just bloody shut up don’t watch the program.
