I was fortunate to see Gibby pitch many times. What a competitor. I remember one time, he came real close to hitting an opposing player.figure that. Well the umpire came out and told him, if he did it again, he would fine him 100 dollars. In between innings he went into dugout. When he came back out to mound, he went up to umpire and gave him 200 dollars and said your going to need this. RIP Mr. Gibson.

  • In my top 5 of all-time favorite Cardinals. In no particular order: Stan Musial, Red Schoendienst, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Julian Javier. Albert needs to be on that list, along with Mark McGwire – and don’t rag me about the steroids – it still takes great hand-eye coordination to hit a spinning ball coming at you with a stick about 2-1/2″ in diameter. (not that I’m accusing YOU of ragging me—but you know as well as I do that there are going to be those who will!).
  • He came at you from a lot of different angles. Dust you off on the 0-2 pitch than it’s see ya later on the slider or curve. Just terrific pitcher, my favorite pitcher of all time. I saw Bob hit back to back home runs in a game he was pitching at Busch Stadium #1 (Sportsman’s Park). It’s just one of those things you will never forget.
  • He is my all time favorite Cardinal’s pitcher and an outstanding role model for everyone. We will miss seeing him and Lou Brock on opening day 2021, I used to imitate his motion when I pitched as a kid. He was my favorite Cardinal pitcher. Saw him live at the game 7 of both 64 and 67 World Series. He was incredible. BTW, my favorite Cardinal hitter is a toss up between Stan Musial and Albert Pujols.

Wish I could have seen him play. Anytime his name was mentioned my mom would say what an extraordinary person / player Gibby was to watch. So sad to lose him., I feel sorry for those who never saw him pitch. Even if just on tv when he was playing for the Cards. He was something to see

There is an old story that Red walked out to the mound and told him to walk the next batter. Gibson is said to have replied, “I’ll hit him, but I won’t walk him.” I love Tim McCarver’s comment about Mr Gibson; per Tim, “Bob’s is the luckiest pitcher ever. He always pitches on a day the other team doesn’t want to hit” .
