And I sleep while he watches. It’s not ideal. It’s definitely not the way I want to parent, but sometimes rest is more important so this is me giving you permission, one special needs parent to another, to hand over the iPad. Many hugs to you on the hard nights and if you’re ever wondering if you’re alone in the middle of the night, you are not. We’re probably awake here in Raleigh screaming about our ankles hurting.
- I’m a teacher and my son has autism. I’m lying here exhausted because I didn’t get sleep last night. My head hurts so much and it gets worse when I stress out hearing my son stem in his room. He can’t stop sometimes. I don’t ask for pitty I’m just glad you’re sharing your story. It’s not easy.
- I am familiar and know her firm stance. However, I don’t necessarily agree with her and neither does every person with a disability. I have some readers with autism who detest the diagnosis and others who embrace it. For me, it’s anxiety that is the struggle. I also have anxiety yet no one scolds next when I admit it’s quite a nuisance for myself.
With a grandson very similar to Amos, wonderful, perfectly imperfect, amazing and exasperating. His mother and i often wondered if we would survive him. Yes, we have so far. We’re not perfect, but we love more than we can express. Our angel is now 8, it does get a bit better each year. Hang in there!
So thankful for your testimony, too many times as special needs mothers we are surrounded by people that just don’t get it so when we hear from others it helps our soul even for just a minute.
