Our family loved our stay in Bacharach last year at the end of May! Chose Bacharach on a Rick Steve’s recommendation. We found out the hard way that the train doors do not stay open long. Two of our group of five got a couple hour bonus trip (punctual as the German trains????) to Oberwesel.???? A Rhine river cruise and touring Burg Eltz castle are not to be missed!! We were fortunate to have been to Bacharach twice on two different Rick Steves Tours; GAS in 2004 and Best of Europe in 2007. We loved returning and the opportunity to visit with Herr Jung and walk his town with him. What a wonderful Ambassador for Bacharach and all of Europe but above all a true Gentleman!! RIP Herr Jung.
This picture is from the 2014 Best of Europe tour I participated in. Herr Jung was such a great local tour guide and certainly a highlight of my trip. I was unaware he had passed. I wanted to share another photo of the Gothic Werner Chapel. Alas, unable to post more than one. Wonderful memories from Bacharach last summer with my family! And a visit to Burg Eltz to see Rick’s favorite castle in Europe! This is a special town to my husband’s family as you can see from our last name. Been there many times.
