I fell in love with Switzerland & the Alps in fourth grade when I read Heidi! I did my country report on it when I was in fifth grade! When I was in high school my dad painted a picture of the view of the Dolomites in Northern Italy from a calendar picture! I have visited Switzerland three times as an adult and I have been to Val de Fune and knelt in the church there and prayed for my dad who had Alzheimer’s. When I returned and showed him my pictures, he said he remembered being there though he never had.

  • I can’t wait to visit Switzerland, as one part of my family is originally from there. I’m working more on finding out which area before I even dream of traveling there. For now, stay safe and we’ll all be traveling sometime again!
  • I have a some jewelry with pressed edelweiss. From the early 80s. I was told that when a boy gives you that flower it means you are very special because of where they grow, the guy would have to climb very high and maybe to a dangerous place to pick them. Mine are just costume jewelry I bought myself . I treasure them.
  • I miss traveling. Especially in Europe. I took my kids on a camping trip from Italy to Switzerland, France, Germany and Austria two summers ago. We stayed in the Lauterbrunnen valley and it was breathtaking. So surreal. I can’t wait to go back to Switzerland!
  • Mathias told us about the school closing in Murren and Gimmelwald last Sept and we met several darling school girls catching the gondola to get to town. Have they have any more luck opening the schools for the kids up there! Like you I am longing to go back to The Berber Oberland. It is heaven on earth, isn’t it?

We made this trip as a family in 2008, following your guide book. We even stopped at the little house for cheese. We really love Switzerland. If you know who wins the 2020 election, we may pack up and move there! Was there in ’89 only because we bought Europe through the Back Door. Spring time and flowers everywhere.. incomparable. So hope to get there again one day!!!

45 years ago I went on a tour bus trip with our neighbors. At night I met a young Austrian. On my last night before we left he gave me a edelweiss. We lost touch – but I still had the edelweiss and my love for the mountains I agree Rick! Having something to look forward to is critical right now since travel plans this year have all but been cancelled.

If I was not a ‘senior’ I might not feel so stressed about not having a new ‘plan’ to look forward to but at our age we know time is running short and there is still so much to see and do. Praying to get back in the air, on the ships, on foreign soil and wherever our hearts lead us! The Lauterbrunnen Valley looks magical – would love to see that. Cheers!
