In 1956, Ms. Bader Ginsburg was one of nine women enrolled in Harvard Law School. She later transferred to Columbia Law School in New York. Despite being in the group with the highest achievement in her class, Ms. Bader Ginsburg had difficulty finding a job. Ms. Bader Ginsburg said law firms in New York City were reluctant to hire her at the time because she came from a woman background, had children and Jewish descent.
Ms. Bader Ginsburg later became a professor at Rutgers Law School in 1963 and co-founded the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Federation (ACLU). In 1973, Ms. Bader Ginsburg assumed the responsibility of head of legal department of ACLU.
In 1980, Ms. Bader Ginsburg was appointed to the District Court of the District of Columbia. In 1993, President Bill Clinton nominated Ms. Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court. From here, Ms. Bader Ginsburg officially became the second woman to be appointed to the US Supreme Court.
