When a cat gently approaches you, climbs on your lap, and begins to slowly rub your front paws up and down your feet, it can be difficult to stop laughing. This behavior, which occurs in almost every domestic cat, is often referred to as “biscuit making” or “kneading” because it looks like your cat is kneading the dough to make bread.
Some cats “dough” gently, in control, possibly simply bending their paws over a soft surface; some other cats lifted their paws high and then slammed them down, like they were in a parade. It’s a hilarious act, and many cat owners wonder where this weird act came from. In fact, catechists have yet to come to a conclusion, but there are a few reasonable theories.
