For many years, the question of why and how the horseshoe evolved has been a subject of controversy among many scientists.
A new study has demonstrated that as horses get bigger, their toes disappear to a single toe.
Tracing the evolutionary traces of horseshoes, the scientists first studied 13 horseshoe fossils belonging to the Hyracotherium species, about 50 million years ago. They then compared these figures with modern horse characteristics.
