Dungeons & Dragon is a fantasy role-playing game designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. Gygax founded Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. and released the game in 1974. In the 1990s, TSR’s competition failed and was acquired by Wizards of the Coast (1997).
The birth of Dungeons & Dragon is considered to be the beginning of today’s role-playing games (RPG) and the RPG game industry. Before the advent of RPGs, before computer games appeared, before Trading Card games, there was a game genre called Wargame (roughly translated: fake battle game). Dungeons & Dragon was developed from the traditional Wargame but instead, the game allows players to create their own character instead of an army.
