Hi-hat (or “hats”) cymbals consist of two cymbals placed opposite each other on a metal post with two folding support legs holding, for a hollow support post to stand up. Like the bass drum, the hi-hat has a pedal. The lower cymbals are fixed in place. The upper cymb is mounted on a thin pole, by means of a clutch inserted into the empty cymb vertical cylinder. The thin terminals are connected to a pedal. When the pedal is depressed, a mechanism causes the very thin to move down, causing the upper cymbals to move.

When the foot is lifted off the pedal, the upper cymb is lifted by the pedal’s spring mechanism. Hi-hats make a sound either by hitting the cymbals with one (or two) or just by opening & closing the cymbals with the pedal. The ability to create rhythm on hi-hats with foot-only allows the drummer to use both clubs on other drums or cymbals. [25] Various sounds can be made by pressing “hi-hat open” (the pedal is not being pressed down, making a noisy sound nicknamed “sloppy hi-hat”) or a “hi-hat” sound. -hat close “sharp (with the pedal pressed down).
