For thousands of years, Eskimos and polar bears have shared the same habitat. In the past, they thought that bears had mystical powers; In order to obtain this mystical power, many of them wore bear teeth on their necks. Polar bear skin is very valuable; Today Eskimos still use gloves, boots, and clothing made of bear fur. They also use the leather to make the carpet to sit and sleep. The first whale explorers and hunters hunted polar bears for skin and meat. In 1965, countries bordering the Arctic held a meeting and agreed to announce the importance of polar bears while prohibiting the hunting of female bears who are nursing cubs.
