The date 1066 always stood out in my memory but I couldn’t recall all the details behind It. Thank you for reminding me as former an English Literature major in the 70’s, the significance of it and to place it on my itinerary on my next trip to France, hopefully, as a US citizen, in 2021. The Bayeux Tapestries were also an interesting segment of my studies in Art History. Thank you, Rick, for tying it all together again!
This is one of my favorite things in all of Europe. The audio guide is fantastic and the kids’ one even better. My 9yo daughter knows this story so well because of this exhibit. just enjoyed looking at my slide show of your tour Paris and the Heart of France I took 2 years ago.
Wonderful so many memories. I so want to be able to fulfill my wanderlust again. Your tour was so excellent I booked last year the Hill Towns of Italy another wonderful experience. Thank you. Five tours and counting with my fingers crossed.
My husband (below) and I visited Bayeux in 2018 and enjoyed your guide and seeing the tapestry. We stopped in Rouen, then made Bayeux our home while we toured Normandy. Then we had an adventure tracing the steps in my husband’s grandfather’s WWI diary. He had marched/trucked from Brest, France to Verdun. No Rick Steves guide for that, but instead, a primary source guide. When we returned, I made a photo book with quotes from the diary and with copies of 100 year old photos and our photos and gave copies to the family.
